My Winter Body Care Routine
Last week I talked about my updated winter skincare routine for my face. This week, I wanted to talk about my water body care routine. I suffer from eczema and dry skin that is exacerbated by the dry cold winter months. Additionally, I had a very bad eczema flare-up/reaction all over my body last summer and my skin is still recovering from it. My routine is focused on exfoliation followed by moisturizing.
For cleansing I am not as picky. I like to try different shower gels and shower oils. I don’t like scented body lotions as I find that my skin doesn’t handle them well and I also don’t like anything that competes with my perfume. Bt I do enjoy scented shower gel and body washes since they wash off and do not sit on the skin. Right now I have two shower gels open. Bliss Lemon Sage Body Wash and Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash. I’ve been using the Aveeno more as of late since it is quite dry in my apartment with the heat blasting most of the time and it has a very rich creamy consistency. I will confess that I love a hot shower even though I know it’s bad for dry skin. I try to minimize the effects as much as possible with my body washes and lotions.
I use the Eco Tools Bath & Shower Gloves to wash with. I’ve been using these for a few years now and I love them. They aren’t rough but they help to give the skin a nice little scrub. They are inexpensive and well made. Once I am done with washing, I take and additional exfoliation step. This is a newer addition to my routine and has helped a ton with repairing the texture of my skin after last summer’s eczema flare up. I had this Tree Hut Tahitian Vanilla Bean Shea Sugar Scrub on my shelf forever and hadn’t tried it. I take generous dollops and use all over my body all the way down to my feet (I also focus on my heels). My skin feels like silk when I wash it off.
I don’t shave my legs as often during the winter, because..why?? But when I do I use the Harry’s Shave Gel and Razor. The shaving gel is thick and rich and leaves the skin soft and smooth. I use this on my underarms as well.
Once out of the shower, I towel off minimally, leaving my skin somewhat damp. I then apply my Derma Doctor KP Duty Lotion. This contains AHAs that help exfoliate and smooth the skin. I then follow with my CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. For my feet, I have started applying the Dionis Milk & Honey Hand & Body Goat Milk Cream. I originally bought this for my hands but it’s too scented. (My hands are really sensitive to fragranced hand lotions). It’s thick and creamy and works well to keep feet soft. If I am showering at night before bed, I apply the cream and then a pair of socks.
I do this routine during every shower, and it has kept my skin soft and moisturized during these last few cold months.
