My Summer Fragrance Wardrobe
Last week I spoke about my Summer Foundation Wardrobe and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to do the same for fragrance. I am a fragrance enthusiast. I am not a one “signature” perfume kind of girl. I like to have a collection where I can change my fragrance depending on my mood. My collection isn’t large compared to some I’ve seen but it’s large enough that I have a nice range of fragrances to play with every season. This summer and past spring, I have been focusing on panning a few fragrances. I’ve also added a few and they have quickly become staples.
Jo Malone Rose Blush Cologne, $74
This fragrance was released this past Spring as part of a Limited Edition collection of fragrances with the theme of jams and jellies. I was really intrigued by this collection and bought three of the fragrances. One was a reissue (Blackberry & Bay) and two were new, Rose Blush and Orange Peel. I was thoroughly expecting to love Orange Peel and Rose Blush was the wild card I wasn’t sure about. Well I hated Orange Peel and LOVED Rose Blush. Go figure. I’m not usually a rose scent kind lover but that has been changing recently. A lot of the more modern rose scents are less “grandma in the garden” and more “rose in the hair” which I have been enjoying. Of all the fragrances on this list, I have been using this one the most. The notes are described as: delicate rose petals, basil, lychee and white musk.
*Philosophy Amazing Grace Bergamot Eau de Toilette, $52
I recently panned this fragrance and was low-key sad about it. I had added it to my project pan because when I first purchased it I wasn’t sure if I even liked it. It sat unused on my fragrance tray for nearly a year. Bergamot is one of my favorite scents. And while this fragrance is called “Bergamot”, that note is actually pretty sparse. Some of the notes included are: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Neroli, Rose, Jasmine, and Orange Blossom. for me the overwhelming vibe of this fragrance is “light” and “citrus”. It’s a soft fragrance that won’t overwhelm or be offensive. It’s one of those fragrances that you can spray a ton of and it stays the same. It also doesn’t last very long on the skin which is drawback. But not one that would stop me from repurchasing it. Which I do plan to eventually do.
*Malin + Goetz Vetiver Eau de Parfum, $95
This has been a staple in my collection since I purchased it last year. It was pretty much all I wore last summer and while it hasn’t been used as much this summer it’s still the one I reach for when I want something a bit more elevated and elegant. Notes include: Haitian vetiver, cardamon, warm amber, African Bigarade and White Iris. This is a grown up fragrance. It has a modern quality to it. I’m a huge fan of Malin + Goetz parfums. I’ve tried all of them and with the exception of one I love them all. I own two (this one and Leather) and plan on eventually buying the others, except for Cannabis - which is the only one I wasn’t a fan of. VERY patchouli heavy. So if you like patchouli you may love Cannabis.
*Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne, $142
This was the second Jo Malone fragrance I ever purchased (my first was Wild Bluebell). And it’s one of my favorites in my collection. Notes include: Nectarine, Peach, Cassis, and Acacia Honey. This is probably one of the sweetest fragrances I own, if not the sweetest. I’m generally not into super sweet scents but this one is a nice marriage between a soft floral and a light sweetness.
*Tocca Florence Eau de Parfum, $76
An OG in my collection and a fave. Gardenias are my favorite flowers. And also one of my favorite scents. My first “high-end” fragrance purchase was Annick Goutal’s Gardenia Passion when I was 16 and this reminds of it so much. But a lot less expensive. The notes of Florence include: Gardenia, Pear and Bergamot. Gardenia is not a light scent and the pear and bergamot really lift the overall feeling of the fragrance and keep it from being too heavy. I’m really interested in trying some of the other fragrances from Tocca.
*Philosophy Amazing Grace Magnolia Eau de Toilette, $52
This is the newest addition to my collection, so it hasn’t been worn as much as the other but I am including it on this list as it is something that I plan to wear throughout this season. The description of this scent intrigued me and so I purchased it on a lark without having smelled it before. I do this a lot. I feel like once you know what your favorite notes and scents are, you can look for fragrances that incorporate them. For me I will always be interested in a fragrance that contains bergamot. Which this one does. Magnolia can be a quite heavy scent but the light citrus-y tones of bergamot can help lift it and give it a bit more dimension. Which it does in this fragrance. Citrus notes and florals go so nicely together and can really balance each other out. The other notes include: White nectarine accord, white violet, amber and musk.
One thing I love about Philosophy fragrances is that they are great “workhorse” fragrances. And by that I mean they are great everyday perfumes that you can grab and throw on when you are going out to run errands or for work or after going to the gym. They are relatively affordable and easy to find. I find myself reaching for the ones I own when I’m just in the house and not doing much. I wear fragrance everyday btw, - even at home. It makes me feel put together. And I may not want to use my more expensive perfumes. The Philosophy ones are what I reach on those days.
What are some of your favorite fragrances for Summer? Let me know in the comments!
