Welcome to The Mod Woman

Hi there! Let me start off by saying that I hate doing introductions. They immediately take me back to being the new kid in school who had to stand in front of the class and tell everyone about myself. Awkward!  So let’s get all of the awkward stuff out of the way and I will tell you a bit about myself, but most importantly I will tell you what the mission statement for this site is.

Hi, my name is Ameerah. I am a thirty-something professional who lives in Chicago. I am single with no kids (not counting my two adorable fur babies). This blog is my way of sharing my unique perspective in today’s world. I am a non-hijab wearing, African American, Muslim Woman. Or as I like to call myself: The minority trifecta!

I started a blog about five years ago called Valiantly Varnished. It is centered around one of my passions, nail polish and nail art. And while I have enjoyed blogging regularly on this subject over the last year or two I began wanting more. More ways to express myself and talk about the other things that are important to me and a part of my life. But I didn’t want it to just be a diary where I scramble down my thoughts. I wanted to create a space where  women like myself (and even women who aren’t at all like me) can find a place to talk, learn and grow.

This space will be about all the things that I myself, and I know many other modern women are interested in: Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion, Pop Culture and way of improving our own happiness in our daily lives. Along with some personal musings, of course. This is a new adventure for me and I hope you will join me on it!
