I Tried Amazon Prime Wardrobe and Here are My Thoughts
If you are on social media you may have seen quite a few influencers talking about and promoting Amazon Prime Wardrobe. Amazon Prime Wardrobe is a new service from Amazon for Prime members, that allows you to pick 4 clothing items to try for free before seven days. If you like something you keep it and after the 7 days you are charged for it. Whatever you don’t like you can send back within (with free return shipping) the 7 day window at no charge.
I stumbled upon this while searching for a few summer dresses - my current fashion obsession. On a whim I decided to give it a shot. I selected 4 dresses:
Placing my order
. You are allowed up to 4 items with Amazon Prime Wardrobe. I chose the 4 dresses I was interested in and added them to my Prime Wardrobe cart. An important note: Not all clothing on Amazon has the option of Prime Wardrobe. And with some items it depends on the size. For instance, the dress above from Avec Les Filles was available for Prime Wardrobe in a size 12 but not a size 10. For dresses cut like that one I generally wear a size 10 but opted for the 12 to get a feel for the dress and see if I wanted to purchase the 10.
The order is placed much like you would any other order on Amazon. You choose your form of payment and Amazon keeps it on file for the order. Whatever you choose to keep will be charged to that account.
I received my order during the standard 2-day Prime shipping time frame. It came in a large box that was reusable for shipping the items back when done.
The items
Two of the dresses arrived in plastic on hangers while the other two arrived folded in small plastic bags. All of the dresses were beautiful but they were all a tad large - everything I ordered seemed to run a bit big. Which was okay. I got to try something from Drew Barrymore’s clothing line with Amazon, “Dear Drew”. The dress was beautiful but a tad matronly on me (a smaller size would have remedied that I think). It made me super curious to try a few other things from her line. I really enjoy the overall aesthetic. The black Jill Jill Stuart dress was a potential back up for a dress I am wearing to an event but I didn’t need it once it arrived and so I skipped trying it on.
The Avec Les Filles dress was a weird one. The sleeves sat a bit strange on me and even if it were in my normal size 10 I don’t think I would have liked it on me. The standout item for me was the BB Dakota Jasmine Vine dress. I had seen it previously on Nordstrom’s website as well another site. It’s so pretty. I thought that I would feel a bit “Little House on the Prairie” in it. But I didn’t. It would look great with sneakers like the model has it styled or with ankle boots or sandals. I decided this was the dress I was going to keep - but it still felt a bit large in the waist area. And so I went on Amazon to see if they had size 8 in stock. And they did.-for considerably cheaper than the $118 price tag of the size 10.
This is my main bit of advice when trying Prime Wardrobe. Check the pricing of the other sizes. The size 8 in the BB Dakota dress was NOT available for Prime Wardrobe ( it now is). And so I decided to return the size 10 and order the size 8 - for less than half the price. I placed my order and within a few days the Size 8 was at the $118 retail price. Always make sure you are getting the best deal!
Final Thoughts
I liked the service for the most part. I used it more as an opportunity to get a gauge on certain brands’ fit than I did for actually purchasing things. Now I know that Drew Barrymore’s line runs a bit big and that I want to try more of her stuff. The return process of the items was fairly easy as well. I simply re-packaged the items in the box they came in. It had sticky strips that allowed me to re-seal the box with no issue. The items were back to Amazon within 2 days time. My main bit of advice is as above. Because Amazon lists items with various prices depending on the size just be mindful of that and double check the prices - because they can go down- or up. If you see that the price of the item you ordered has gone down, repurchase it and send the one you got in your Prime Wardrobe box back.
I will be trying this service again.
