I Tried These Three Online Bra Brands and Hear Are My Thoughts
When quarantine began back in March one of the things I was looking forward to was not having to put on a bra everyday. Specifically underwire bras which made up most of my bra collection, outside of sports bras. Me and my boobs had had it with underwires. And even before the Rona rolled in I had begun the search for decent bras that were wireless and yet gave good support.
I spent the two months of lockdown braless and happy. And then I decided I didn’t want to be bouncing all over the place during my morning walks and got serious about finding a few comfy wireless bras.
Lively
Lively was the first brand I tried. I was pulled in by the cut of the bras. I purchased two of the *All Day Plunge No Wire Bras in black and nude. Plunge bras have never really been my friend. My boobs tend to just escape the cups of plunge bras randomly and unfortunately these bras were no exception. I have larger breasts and I found that the bands on these bras folder under and didn’t support me well. I would find myself constantly having to adjust the bands and flatten them out. Which is the opposite of a comfy no-fuss bra for me. I wore these consistently for two weeks before giving up on them. I haven’t worn them since. If you are smaller than a D cup I think these bras will work well for you. If you are busty I don’t think these are constructed to handle the weight of large breasts.
Knix
Next up I decided to try Knix. Mostly because I was constantly being harassed by their ads once Instagram and Facebook caught wind of my search history. I decided on the *Wing Woman Contour Bra. This one was the most substantial as far as construction goes of all the bras I tried. It was a BRA. The cups are sculpted and lined, but just without the underwire. I figured this bra would be good for when I need a substantial bra. And it would have been. Had it not HURT to wear. Seriously. The sizing felt OFF. To the point where I double-checked the size to make sure I hadn’t ordered wrong. I did not. The band just seems to run really small. So while I liked the bra I simply couldn’t wear it. It felt like I was wearing an underwire bra that dug into my skin. Which is what I was trying to avoid in the first place.
True & Co.
I went back to the drawing board - and back to the IG and FB ads. I kept seeing ads for True & Co. and was intrigued. But also put off by the pricing. The bras is made of thin seamless shapewear material. And so I decided to give a cheaper version of this type of bra from H&M. The H&M was of course not exactly the same in style and quality but I got a feel for how the material felt on my skin and moved. I liked it. The H&M version had thicker straps that weren’t adjustable, and it looked and felt more like a sports bra. The True & Co bra offered adjustable straps and removable liner pads. I opted for the True Body Lift Triangle Mesh Bra design in Bronze and Black. The sizing for True & Co bras is broken down between S-XL and their size chart is easy to follow and match to your specific bra size (For reference, I wear a size 34F in traditional bras and wear a size Medium in True & Co). The band is fitted without being tight. When I wear these bras I am comfortable and they dont ride up or dig into my ribcage. My only gripe is that because they are unmolded cups and the fabric is thin it can verge on giving you the dreaded uniboob. But it doesn’t LOOK like uniboob under tops. And that may all depend on your sizing and fullness. I have been wearing these bras pretty much exclusively since I got them. And I love that you can remove the liners depending on how much coverage you need. I tend to keep mine in since I prefer a smooth no visible nips look. These are the most expensive of the bras I’ve tried. And I did debate whether they were worth the $64 (each) price tag, I also looked at the fact that they are the one getting worn repeatedly and so the cost per wear has been much cheaper than any of the others. They have a couple of other designs and styles that I am interested in trying as well.
There are a couple of other online bra brands I would like to eventually try, and maybe when these have worn out I will give them a go. Right now, I am really happy with the True & Co. bras.
