Five Daily Rituals I'm Still Doing in Self-Isolation

Five Daily Rituals I'm Still Doing in Self-Isolation

It feels like a lifetime has passed since my last post but it’s only been a little over a week. A lot has changed for all of us I’m sure. It certainly has for me as I now am working from home, which I have never done before. I decided to take last week off to allow myself time to adjust to this new normal. One of the things I wanted to do was really try to keep some semblance of normalcy in tiny ways. I wanted my M-F schedule to have some structure. Not too much as I don’t do well under strict guidelines, but enough to feel like I am not just living like a hermit. Also -I want The Mod Woman to continue to be the site it’s always been. So while, I will occasionally touch on the current situation, I will also be posting my regular content. I think it’s important for all of our mental health to keep some semblance of normalcy and to also take a break from 24/7 C-19 news.

  1. Getting dressed

I don’t mean putting on a full work outfit. The goal for me is to differentiate between times of day. PJs are for sleeping. In the morning, I change into comfy clothes like leggings. t-shirt and hoodie.

  2. My skincare routine

I am pretty militant about my skincare and don’t want to fall into bad habits in regards to self-care.

3. My morning cup of tea

I usually start every day with my morning cup of tea. If you’re a tea drinker you know how tea drinking can be a calming and anxiety-reducing ritual. It’s been important to my mental health to maintain it.

4. Taking a lunch break

  1. One of the things that is important to me is breaking up my day. It’s easy to “work through” lunch when you work from home. Taking an hour to step away and eat helps make the day feel more structured and “normal”

    5. Going to bed at a reasonable hour

I have to admit the first few days of isolation felt like a get out of jail free card in regards to going to bed. I stayed up late a few days and really felt it the next day. I think also when you are stuck in one place it’s easy to fall into the habit of treating time like it doesn’t exist of doesn’t matter. Keeping to a somewhat regular schedule helps with this. I am going to bed a bit later and getting up later - but that is due to not having to get up early to commute to work. Instead, I now get up about half an hour before I have to log in to my computer. I get dressed, drink my tea and make a bite to eat.

What daily tasks or rituals are you still doing during this time?
