June Favorites: Makeup, Skincare, Books & Podcasts
Ummm...can someone explain to me where the hell June went? How it is already the end of June? How?
This month was a bit of a bust for me. I've spent the majority of it sick, feeling like crap, nursing an injured cat and grappling with unexpected expenses. Oh and I spent my birthday in bed sick while it rained for two days straight. So yeah June has been a blast. But - it wasn't all bad. I did manage to have some faves that stood out for me this month!
Melt Cosmetics Gemini Palette
This purchase was a no-brainer for me this month. It is called the "Gemini" palette (hello, Gemini right here!) and it not only my favorite colors but one of my all-time favorite color combos: Olive Green and Mustard Yellow. Green is my favorite color. And my obsession with yellow eye shadow is untamed. This palette got mixed reviews but I've been playing with the last week or so and I like it. It's not the most amazing formula ever but the shadows blend well, they're pigmented and they last on the eye. Which pretty much ticks all of my approval boxes for a palette. This was limited edition and has since sold out, so I am glad I grabbed it while I still could!
Biologique Recherche Lotion P50W
There are certain skincare products that everyone raves about. You know, the ones where everyone talks about how much it's changed their skin and how it's worth every penny? Lotion P50 is one of those. One of my favorite YouTubers swears by it and I trust what she says about skincare because she takes amazing care of her own skin. So I decided to give it a whirl. ...O...M...G...THIS STUFF. GUYS. It's amazing. All of the hype is true. I used it once and the next day I noticed that my skin wasn't as oily as it usually was. Usually by 9am I have to blot as my oils start breaking through. But my skin was fine. My makeup looked incredible. And the only thing I had done differently was use the P50W (I opted for the P50w formula which is for sensitive skin). I've been using this for nearly a month now and I am so happy with it. My skin just looks brighter and my oil production has decreased. But it's not cheap. At all. I opted for the mini bottle just in case I didn't like it or I had a reaction of some kind #sensitiveskinlife . The small bottle was $28. So this is definitely an investment in your skin when you purchase this. When I run out of the small bottle I will be getting the large one, which I believe is around $60. I can't believe I just typed that...I've become a skincare junkie...
Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for Ultrahuman Protection by Alexander C. Kane
This is June book club pick. It is an audiobook exclusively available on Audible and Amazon. And I have been loving it! I didn't start it until mid-June due to all the domestic hubbub. If you have not been listening along with the book club, I highly recommend this book. It is funny, inventive and unlike anything I've read before. And that's saying something. The book is performed by Bahni Turpin and she is amazeballs! If I had to describe this book I would say imaging your favorite superhero stories or films and then turn them upside down and make them a comedy.
In the Dark Podcast by APM Reports
This is the second season of the In the Dark. The first season focused on the kidnap and murder of an 11 year-old boy named Jacob Wetterling in 1989. The case went unsolved for 27 years. This current second season revolves around the case of Curtis Flowers. A man convicted of killing four people in Mississippi in 1996. Flowers has been tried - and convcted- six times. And each time the verdict gets overturned because of charges of racial bias in the jury selection process. If you are a true crime buff In the Dark is a MUST listen -to podcast. The reporting work by Madeline Baran and her team is stellar. The case itself is compelling and infuriating all at once (I found myself needing to take a mental health break in some parts I was so upset). But power through. It's worth it!
I'm looking forward to July lol. Prayfully, both me and the kitty will feel better and I will be able to get out and enjoy the summer!
