August Favorites - Streaming, Music, Podcasts, Audiobooks and Skincare
Hello strangers! It’s been a couple of weeks, I know. I wasn’t planning on taking this long of a break but circumstance worked against me. Mainly, spotty WiFi and an old slow laptop. But I’m back. Still working on my dinosaur laptop, but oh well. I’m hoping that a new MacBook is somewhere in my near future. My August favorites are mostly shows. I’ve been watching a lot of shows lately which has been nice. I’ve been slacking terribly on reading and have been wanting to focus on audiobooks more since I think I can get through a book more easily that way at the moment.
Streaming
The Boys
This show was suggested by my Zoom group. I really enjoyed it. While hating nearly every character in it. Think the evil twins of famous DC characters. I found the show both engaging, funny and also unexpectedly disturbing. I cant say too much about it because I don’t want to drop spoilers, but it reminds me a bit of Watchmen. Which makes sense considering that both were graphic novels.
Wynonna Earp
I’ve been watching Wynonna Earp since it’s pilot episode. This season almost never happened after the parent production company went under. Which caused a two year gap between seasons. What we got because of this was a truncated season of just five episodes. This season wasn’t as good as some others but I still enjoyed it and enjoyed seeing these characters again after so long.
Podcasts
Very Presidential with Ashley Flowers
I recently started listening to this podcast hosted by Ashley Flowers who co-hosts one of my favorite podcasts, Crime Junkie. I am a history buff and have read about Presidential history for years. But this podcast managed to blow my mind. From Woodrow Wilson to JFK, the podcast tells the stories that DON’T get told.
Audiobooks
Finding Freedom
This is the only book I “read” in August. I pre-ordered it on Audible and finished it within a few days. Omid Scobie did a fantastic job narrating (there is something so lovely about a British accent in narration). If you’ve been living under a rock, Finding Freedom is the biography of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex romance and what led to their decision to step down as senior royals. It does a fantastic job at busting the lies and smears directed at the Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex that were so prevalent in the British press.
Music
Billie Eilish My Future
Have you ever heard a song and felt that it perfectly encapsulated where you are in life? Welp this song is that for me. I literally cried the first time I heard it. And I’ve been playing it on repeat since it dropped.
Skincare
Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser
The first few times I uses this cleanser I wasn’t sure I liked it. It is very light, doesn’t emulsify and is very lightweight. I was afraid that it wasn’t actually cleansing my skin. But I kept using it and it grew on me. A lot. I like that it leaves my skin feeling cleanses but not stripped. It’s perfect for a morning cleanse and a gentle second cleanse after removing my makeup.
