July 2020 Favorites - Skincare, Streaming and Snacks
The month of July flew by and yet so much occurred during this month for me personally that it feels like three months in one. We are heading into the homestretch of summer and I frankly and am happy about that. This month I focused on my health and well-being and focusing on enjoying little things. And of of those little things for me has always been good TV and good films. And skincare. And food.
Streaming
I have been really into two shows this month. Both of them with strong female leads at the center of them. The Alienist, a period piece and crime drama with Dakota Fanning as the female lead who works with her two male friends/colleagues to solve crime. Hanna was originally an action film starring Saoirse Ronan as the title character. I’d seen the film and thought it was okay, but the show is much better. Mainly because it focuses more on character and story than action - though there is still tons of that. I highly recommend both shows if you love great stories with great character development.
Where’d You Go Bernadette is currently on Hulu and I decided to watch it out of boredom. And promptly fell in love with the main character, Bernadette. As someone who is an introvert and has dealt with anxiety I understood her so well. The movie is based on a book and someone told me that they actually enjoyed the film more. And Cate Blanchett is fantastic as Bernadette. She brings such vulnerability to a character who could easily have been played as unlikable.
Skincare
I have never been one to love skincare gadgets I find them to generally be gimmicky and a waste of money. But I kept coming across the Dermapore Pore Extractor online and was mildly intrigued by it. And then my esthetician posted her nighttime routine on IG stories and she used this as part of it. I was sold. But the price tag is hefty at $100, but so far I have been loving it. I use it 1-2 times a week and I have really been noticing a difference in the texture and smoothness of my skin. Part of that is also due to the REN Ready Steady Glow AHA Daily Tonic. This toner has been amazing for my skin and I have noticed a difference in the overall tone of my skin.
Snacks
I’ve been trying to get my diet back on track and have been looking for ways to incorporate more healthy fats not only in my meals but in my snacks. Enter Good Fish. Good Fish are crispy salmon skins that comes in flavors like Sea Salt, Spicy BBQ and Chili Lime. They are a great substitute for chips. I initially tried the assorted flavors but my fave is the Spicy BBQ. I enjoyed them so much that I have re-ordered the Spicy BBQ flavor. If you are not a fan of fish or fish flavor this is NOT the snack for you. But if you do and want a healthier chip option I highly recommend these.
