December 2020 Favorites
December was a weird one. Though the entirety of 2020 was a weird one. But December kind of came and went and it feels like to should still be Thanksgvng but it’s actually and entirely new year. So basically, what I‘m trying to say is I forgot that it was time to post my December favorites. But I remembered and here we are!
Bridgerton- Netflix
If you haven’t heard about Bridgerton you must be living under a rock or at the very least not on social media. Because this show has been EVERYWHERE. Produced by Shonda Rhimes and based on the nest-selling book series by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton is the romantic, frothy, sexy escape we all need right now. And I almost didn’t watch it! I saw the previews for it and was kind of like “meh”. Bear in mind that I was in a particularly cynical frame of mind at the time because normally these show are right up my alley. But then my weekly Zoom meeting group picked out what we were going to watch over the holiday break and Bridgerton was at the top of the list. And so I grudgingly started the first episode. And then proceeded to binge watch all seven episodes in a day. If you don’t think you will like the show I have two words for you: THE DUKE. You can thank me later.
Aroma Works Reed Diffuser in Lemongrass & Bergamot
I have been searching for a reed diffuser for my bathroom for awhile but wasn’t having any luck on finding a scent that spoke to me. I had purchased one from Nordstrom that had an amazing scent description but wound up smelling like an old lady’s perfume. So that was a bust. Right around Black Friday, Macy’s had a bog sale (as they always are, let’s be honest) and all of the Aroma Works reed diffusers were on sale for $10. I picked up two: Lemongrass & and Bergamot and Mandarin & Vetivert. Of the two the Lemongrass scent is hands down my fave. It is STRONG, which is what I wanted. But t’s also fresh and clean smelling. My only major gripe is that because my bathroom is so dry all of the oil got sucked up by the reeds within two weeks. Which kind of sucks. But I am planning on repurchasing this specific scent regardless because I liked it so much.
Adidas Track Pants
I am not usually a track pants kind of girl. I prefer leggings or joggers, or wide leg knits. But I saw Dina Tokia modeling these on her Instagram and I knew I had to have them. I even managed to catch them on sale. I purchased them way back in July and knew they would be perfect for when the snow hit and the temps fell. Well, last week we got our first significant amount of snow and I was STOKED to bust these out. These are like thin snow pants. The material is similar to that of a windbreaker. So I don’t have to worry too much about them getting wet. I’ve worn them about 5 times now and I wear them in lieu of regular pants. I just put a pair of fleece leggings under them for extra warmth. I tried to find them on the Adidas website, but they are no available. Sorry gang.
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Gel SPF 50+ PA++++
That’s a mouthful of a name for a product I know! Back in November I was running out of my beloved Purito sunscreen an was planning on repurchasing it when news dropped about the efficacy of it being put into question and that tests had shown that it was not in fact SPF 50 and didn’t even hit SPF 15 (If you’d like to hear more about this, visit Lab Muffin Beauty Science’s Instagram). To say I was pissed and devastated would be an understatement. I had been using it all summer! And so I had to go back to the drawing board and find a new sunscreen. The Biore one had been on my radar for awhile but I was looking at the other formulation for oily skin. I opted instead to try the more hydrating version since it’s winter and the air is quite dry here. I’ve been using it now for about a month and I REALLY like it. It’s a lotion consistency, but not too think or heavy on the skin. It feels like a really nice moisturizer and lays well under makeup. If you wear it alone it gives the skin a really nice hydrated look.
Malin + Goetz Leather Perfume
Malin + Goetz Vetiver perfume is one of my all-time favorites and I had been wearing pretty much all late summer not fall. It made me curious about the other fragrances in the range and I decided to buy their discovery sampler set. You get a sample size of each perfume. I loved all of them except for Cannabis (which smells like Patchouli- which I hate). The one that really blew me away was Leather. For some reason I didn’t think I would like it and that it would be too heavy or too masculine for me (it is a unisex perfume). But nope. It is AMAZING smelling. I wore the tiny sample all of December and I was sad when it was all gone. This perfume is on my list for my next fragrance purchase. I also really liked Dark Rum and Stem. If you are intrigued by this perfume line I HIGHLY recommend the sample set as a way of getting to try all of them out. And it was less than $25!
And that was what I was loving in December. As you can see there’s no makeup on this list, which is rare for me. I did my 12 Days of Untrieds challenge on Instagram in December and wore makeup for pretty much 12 days straight. And then I didn't wear any until the day after Christmas. I was feeling a bit of makeup fatigue by that point. But with my challenges that I am doing this year I am feeling rejuvenated and my interest in makeup has picked up again. But not NEW makeup. I’m really excited about not focusing so much on acquiring new makeup this year, and spending more time enjoying what I already own. I still plan to purchase makeup, I’m not on a low buy and talking about makeup is one of the things I do here and on Instagram. But I also want to make sure that I am keeping not only my spending but my collection under control. This past week I pulled out my Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam palette, which I hadn’t used in ages and created two gorgeous looks with it. You forget how much you love the stuff you already own when you are constantly acquiring new things. I’ve picked out my foundation for January and it’s a another old favorite I had forgotten about!
