November Favorites
Last month was a slow on as far as favorites go. November was a weird month for me mentally. I was dealing with a really bad bout of anxiety for the first half (mostly due to the state of the world and the US election) and it sent me into a bit of a spiral for a bit. But I was able to pull myself out of that state of mind by the second half of the month. But I did have a few things that cheered me up and that I enjoyed.
You’re Wrong About Podcast
This podcast was recommended to me by one of the girls in my weekly Zoom meeting. And I am SO glad I downloaded it. I started with the series she recommended which is there five-part series on Princess Diana. If you’re obsessed with Season 4 of The Crown like I know so many people are you will LOVE this series. It starts at Diana’s childhood all the way to her death and it mentions a LOT of the things shown on The Crown - and a lot of things that aren’t. I am now listening to their series on the Tuskegeege Syphilis Experiment.
The Queen’s Gambit - Netflix
I've been loving this series and have actually resisted the urge to binge watch it so that I can enjoy it a bit longer. It is the fictional story of a young female champion chess player in the 60’s. She deals with misogyny, being an orphan as well as her own addiction to pills and alcohol. The show tackles so much in regards to feminism and how an accomplished young woman navigated those waters during a time when girls were expected to marry right out of school. If you’re on the fence just watch the first episode and I promise you will be addicted.
CeraVe Healing Ointment
I mentioned this glorious product in Monday’s post and I am mentioning it here because it is one of the things I loved in November. The weather finally dropped to winter temps and this has been fantastic for fighting dryness and combating eczema on my eyelids and around me eyes. I apply to at night a few times a week on my eyelids and below my eyes before bed.
And finally my ultimate favorite of November… long walks
I have always loved walking. It is my favorite form of exercise and for some who sometimes struggles with anxiety it can be a great mental cleanser. I just pop in my AirPods, turn on a podcast or audiobook and just walk. I try to go for a walk if not everyday then at least 5-6 days a week. My walks are usually about 30-40 minutes long. And sometime it’s just a walk to my local Starbucks and back but that walk is just enough to get a decent amount of fresh air and steps in as well as just being a great breather. As I stated earlier my anxiety was bad at the beginning of November and those walks played a huge part in helping calm me. And walks are especially important in the winter fir me. With the days being shorter and getting less sunlight SAD can kick in really quickly. And looking back I think that SAD was playing a role in my anxiety. Getting out early when the sun is out and bright does so much for how I feel for the remainder of the day. I feel like I moved my body, got fresh air, and got some Vitamin D.
