Makeup I Regret Buying

Makeup I Regret Buying

Being a makeup lover can be a bit like being a gambler. You purchase a product in the hopes that your gamble on it will pay off. The more makeup you own the more likely you are to purchase something that doesn’t live up to the hype, the price tag or your expectations. Below is a list of the items I’ve purchased over the last two years that I wish Id skipped. Or at the very least got on DEEP discount.

Urban Decay Naked Cherry

This is one of those “I was drink” purchases. Except I don’t drink and was perfectly sober when I bought it. So I guess you could call it a “what was I thinking?” purchase. I had made the mistake of purchasing the Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy palette last Holiday season. I regretted it almost immediately when I compared it to the original Gingerbread Spice palette and saw how similar they were. And so I did what any smart woman would do and returned it. I wasn’t smart enough to just leave after doing so. Instead I bought Urban Decay Naked Cherry. A palette I have since never used and still sits in its box unused.

JKissa x ELF To the Rescue Palette

I should have listened to the reviews. But did I? Nope. And now this palette sits unused on my makeup desk, mocking me. I have never used it other than swatching.  The formula is just lackluster. The shadows are thin and the metallics are just strange in the way they swatch. This was JkIssa’s second collaboration with E.L.F. and the general consensus is that the first one was better.

Too Faced Chocolate Gold

I actually listened to the reviews for this palette. Everyone raved about it. I was a bit wary because of the matte to metallic ratio. But I purchased it and used it exactly once. And what did I find? That I was right to be wary. The matte shades are too light for my skin tone (with the exception of the black). And while the metallics are pretty I feel like their is no cohesion to them and I don’t feel inspired when I look at the palette.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

I should have bought Natural Radiant instead. There is nothing wrong with this formula, but I have other sheer to medium coverage foundations that I like more. I may still pick up Natural Radiant but I want to get through a few foundations before doing so.

Colourpop Smoke Show/Blowing Smoke Palette

Not gonna lie, this color story intimidates me and I have yet to work up the courage to use this palette. But I’ve been experimenting more with various eyeshadow techniques and I’m feeling a bit braver so I am hoping to give a try soon.

Melt Cosmetics Golden Liquid Lipstick

I love this color. But when I wear it, it looks like I slathered my lips in dijon mustard. Which bums me out because it looks amazing on other people.

Hourglass Veil Setting Spray

This one is the saddest of all. Because it was so damn expensive. I’ve only worn it once but the one time I wore it I was a greasy mess by the end of the day. I also didn’t find it be as blurring as the description claims it to be. I need to try it with a few other foundations but as of now I wish I’d skipped it.

What are some of your makeup regrets? Let me know in the comments.
