6 Alternative Ways To Spend Thanksgiving

6 Alternative Ways To Spend Thanksgiving

The Holiday season can be a time of togetherness; spending quality time with family and friends. But I also know that this time of year can be hard for a lot of people for various reasons. My Thanksgiving this year won’t exactly look like what I would like it to. But - I want to make the best of it. And there are lots of ways to spend this Thanksgiving if you won’t be able to spend it with your family or friends.

1. Volunteer

One of the ways we can remind ourselves of how truly blessed we are is to give back. Giving back is the ultimate form of gratitude. Consider spending your Thanksgiving at a homeless shelter or food kitchen. It will be a day well spent, you will be helping others and you will feel good about yourself for doing so.

2. Go to the Movies

Going to the movies on Thanksgiving is low-key one of my favorite things to do. And if you are solo on Thanksgiving it’s a good way to pass the time, get out and take your mind off of things.

3. Order In

This is what I will be doing this Thanksgiving. Just make sure where you want to order from will be open and will be accepting orders. And then treat yourself to a personal Thanksgiving feast.

4. Go Out to Eat

This one is similar to number 3 - but requires more bravery and energy. I have come to enjoy eating out alone and while this may seem depressing to some I don’t think it has to be. Being alone isn’t a terrible horrible thing and I think we need to change narrative around alone vs lonely. And if you are lonely…?

5. Invite a friend

Chances are you know someone else who may be alone for the holiday. Invite them to spend the day with you or go out to eat. It can be a great bonding experience and it will ease any feelings of loneliness you and your friend may be experiencing.

6. Netflix Binge

I feel like this goes without saying but in a busy world where a lot of us don’t have the luxury of a day off in the middle of the week, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to catch up on your favorite shows or check out all the shows that are on your “to watch” list. We all know how fast Netflix binge days can go by! So grab a cozy blanket, some good snacks and settle in .
