8 Holiday Party Dresses Under $100

8 Holiday Party Dresses Under $100

This week is my company’s holiday party. It’s really the one time a year that I buy a party dress and really go all out. But I also don’t like spending a ton of money on an item that I may only wear once or twice more. And with so many options available in a wide price range there is really no reason to spend a ton of money on a dress. While I was shopping for my own holiday party dress - of which I bought THREE (it’s been a journey , which if you’re interested in reading I write about at the bottom of this post), I found a few more that I wanted to share with you my lovely readers.

So….my dress drama. It started with me not wanting to wear a dress I already owned, as all stories about new dresses do. It’s a perfectly good dress. I bought it for my birthday a few years back but it wound up being insanely hot that day and a black velvet dress was simply not a viable option. I could have worn it to last year’s holiday party…I wore a forest green jumpsuit instead. I was cute and comfy #winning. And so this forgotten dress still sits in my closet unworn with the tags still attached waiting for it’s moment.

The problem is that I simply don’t like wearing black to these types of events. I like color, baby. Give me your wines, your dark greens, your golds…if you can’t go bold at a holiday party, then when can you? I didn’t want to do green since I’d worn that last year…but then I happened upon a really cute green velvet midi dress and thought, “oh but it’s velvet so it’s different.” And promptly ordered it (green is my favorite color, btw). This was during Black Friday. On Cyber Monday I found myself perusing the same site I’d purchased the green velvet dress from and found an even better one. This one was yellow velvet. Yellow. Velvet. And had a retro 1920’s vibe to it. I immediately had an entire look planned in my head and promptly ordered that one. I planned on returning the green one when it arrived. Well…cut to a week later, I check my tracking info and yellow velvet dress is still on it’s way. In fact it won’t arrive until after my holiday party.

Needless to say I was panicked. And upset. I had a whole outfit planned, right down to my hair and makeup. I couldn’t let that vision go, dammit! And so I began a new hunt for a different yellow dress. And I found one. From Target. For a fraction of the price of the green and the yellow ones. Is it as perfect as the original yellow velvet dress of dreams? Nope. But it’s pretty, it’s yellow and I can do my hair and makeup exactly the same. Oh- and it arrived at my doorstep a day after I ordered it. Target coming through in the clutch! I haven’t decided what I will do with the other yellow dress when it arrives. I still really love it. But when will I ever wear it? It will probably wind up next to that other velvet dress I loved and have never worn. Le sigh…
