May Favorites - Makeup, Fashion, Skincare,TV, Podcasts... and Royal Weddings!
I cannot believe that we are basically halfway through 2018 already. It feels like the year has just begun! And May was yet another month that has flown by. This month has been a bit of a weird one for me. Ramadan began literally halfway through the month so it feels a bit like an abbreviated month to me. But there have been definite standouts!
The Royal Wedding
I am not usually into stuff like this. I didn't watch Kate and William's wedding because, frankly I just didn't care. But this wedding?? I was HERE for it. I love these together. They give me such happy vibes. They seem genuinely in love with each other in a way that is refreshing to see from the Royal family who tend to be so composed. Harry has always struck me as the most "normal" of the entire family. And the wedding was a perfect encapsulation of that. The wedding was beautiful, emotional and human. I loved Meghan's dress and how simple and classic it was. But what I loved most was how of the two Harry was the one who was the most emotional. There is something about men being emotional at the sight of their brides that gets me every time.
The Originals
The Originals has been one of my favorite shows since I binge-watched the first season on Netflix nearly five years ago. They are currently in their fifth and final season and so far it has been a doozy! The Originals is the spin-off of Vampire Diaries and centers around the first "Original" vampires, a family composed of six siblings. I always describe it as the darker, more adult alternative to TVD. If you haven't watched it catch up on Netflix - you can thank me later. PS - Elijah is bae.
Embedded by NPR
I am a podcast addict. I love them. Two of my favorites types of podcasts are human interest and politics. This season embedded has combined the two subjects with an entire series devoted to coal country. Sounds kid of boring? It isn't! Embedded has a knack of taking stories that on paper seem rather bland and reporting them in a way that draws you in and makes you care about the people involved. They make subject matters that can feel abstract human and real. And also informative - I have learned so much about the coal industry and the real reasons behind it's decline. And all through them simply talking to the people who have worked in mines, who run mines and who have left mining for other work.
Sunprise Mild Airy Finish SPF 50+
I purchased this Korean sunscreen based on a recommendation from one of my favorite beauty YouTubers, Stephanie Nicole. It can be really hard to find a good sunscreen when you have sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin. This one has been amazing. I have been using it since March and my skin hasn't freaked out on me. It also functions nicely as a makeup primer. I apply this under neath my foundation and it helps control shine and oil production. If you have similar skin issues, I highly recommend this sunscreen. I got min online. You can find it on Amazon here.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette
So...remember when I posted how I wasn't going to buy much during Sephora's VIB sale? Well...I kind of did. But only kind of. I had gone back and forth about buying this palette because it just didn't seem exciting enough for me to purchase. There is nothing ground-breaking about a warm neutral palette. But I kept finding myself circling back to it. Finally while checking out on the Sephora website, I bit the bullet and threw it into my cart as a last minute impulse purchase. I am SO glad I did. This palette is amazing! Seriously. I have used it non stop since I got it. The colors are beautiful and pigmented and blend like a dream. I actually prefer Soft Glam to Modern Renaissance, which I have to say, I was a bit underwhelmed by when I bought it. This palette creates smoky eyes with little effort. I like to create really pretty smoky 90's vibe matte eye looks with this. I used Burnt Orange, Sienna, and Mulberry and my eyes look like I spent 30 minutes on them blending like a fiend. It takes me less than ten minutes- for both eyes. Get this palette!
Target Universal Thread Haurache Sandals
I've had my eyes on these shoes since I first saw them on Target's wesbite back in April. But I told myself I wouldn't purchase them unless they went on sale. Well they went on sale last week (40% off!) and I quickly placed my order. These are the newest thing on this month's list of favorites. I've only worn them a few times. But I love them so much that I felt very comfortable putting them on this month's favorites list. They are first of all so cute. And second - though most importantly - they are comfortable. These will be my go-to summer shoe!
And those are my favorites for May. Not a huge list, but they are the things that I have been vibing with and enjoying this month. I have a feeling June's list will be much longer.
What have been some of your personal favorite things in May? Let me know in the comments!
