Current Affordable Makeup Faves
I love a luxury makeup product just as much as the next girl or guy, but I also really love saving my coin when I can. I would say more than half of my daily makeup routine involves affordable or drugstore makeup items. I love a good drugstore mascara or foundation. And I’ve bee actually using both for the last few months and loving them. I decided to let you all know what I have been loving lately. Some of these you may recognize because I have talked about them in previous posts. Others are new additions to my my routine.
I have talked so much about the * L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear Foundation and the Infallible Full Coverage Concealer that I almost didn’t include them in this post. But they are two of my current faves and it wouldn’t be a complete post without them. Update: I still love them! I wear both everyday and I love the finish. I have never really liked the appearance of concealer under my eyes. It always looked very heavy and “makeup-y” to me. But this concealer is such a great texture. It is full coverage without being heavy or looking cakey throughout the day. Even with powder over it. And the foundation is just beautiful as well. A nice natural satin finish that you can either mattify with powder or make more dewy with your primer or setting spray. It never looks heavy and provides beautiful coverage. I am between two shades and so I do a pump of 485 with a half pump of 475.
There is a lot of ColourPop on this list. And it’s because I love ColourPop. They make fantastic products at a great price point. I recently ordered a few things from the Disney Villains collection. The collection overall didn’t blow me away. It’s pretty but a bit safe. However - I had been looking for the perfect peachy-toned highlighter and found it in the this collection. The Hades Everybody’s Got a Weakness highlighter is in ColourPop’s super shock formula. It’’s a bit of a job getting it on the cheeks because of that formula and I have been experimenting with different brushes to find my perfect application method - but- it’s STUNNING. It gives the perfect peachy-gold glow. I switch up my highlighters pretty much everyday but when I first got this I wore it for three days straight. And then forced myself to wear something else.
I have also been loving the Ultra Glossy Lip in Fantasia. I’m wearing it right now actually. It is a beautiful and versatile “nude” shade with golden shimmer flecks throughout. The shimmer isn’t overwhelming so you aren’t walking around with glitter lips, but it gives the lips a nice dimension and looks great layered over other colors. My current favorite way to wear it is over Dose of Colors liquid lipstick in Knock on Wood for a gorgeous glossy nude lip.
I’ve talked about this ColourPop product before as well and it still gets daily use. The ColourPop Precision Brow Color in Cool Cocoa is a pomade. It’s pigmented and not too dry. I use it literally everyday and have gotten so many compliments on my brows. I use it in conjunction with the Precision brow pencil in Cool Cocoa. I use that to otline the bottom part of my lashes before filling them in with the pomade. Sometimes I will add a clear gel over them, but I don’t really have to. The pomade doesn’t move at all throughout the day.
My go-to black liquid liner has been Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner. I don’t wear liquid liner everyday but when I do that’s what I usually would reach for. Until I tried ColourPop’s BFF Liquid Liner in Numero Uno. It glides on beautifully, is pigmented and lasts all day. I often find that even my Stila liner would have a tendency to fade or smudge by the end of the day. Not the BFF liner. It does NOT BUDGE. When I remove my makeup at the end of the day I often have to go in with a cotton square soaked with micellar water (and this is after using a cleansing balm) to remove it all. And it’s less than half the cost of the Stila liner!
One morning I was running behind and rushing to get ready for work. I did all of my makeup as normal. But then realized when I was halfway to my train that I had completely forgotten mascara. How I managed that I do not know. But I wasn’t going to walk around with a full makeup look and no mascara so I promptly stopped at a CVS and grabbed the CoverGirl Exhibitionist Mascara. I decided to give this one a try after watching Mel Thompson’s review of the Pat McGrath FetishEyes Mascara. She stated that the CoverGirl was a near spot-on dupe. I don’t have the Pat McGrath mascara, but I can say that this one is fantastic. Ironically, the first time I applied it I hated it. It was a super wet formula and the brush shape isn’t my fave. But I went back to it a couple of days later and gave it another shot. And it was fantastic. It is one of those formulas that performs better once it’s been open a few days for sure. The brush shape is still not my fave (I always manage to get mascara on my eyelids or under my eyes), but the formula dries quickly and is easy to clean up. And though it isn’t waterproof is lasts well and doesn’t drop under the eyes or leave smudges throughout the day. I have sensitive eyes that water when it’s cold or windy out (which it has been here in Chicago lately) and the mascara hasn’t run at all.
What are some of your current drugstore or affordable faves at the moment? Let me know in the comments!
