My March Makeup Drawer
Last month I started doing something that I have seen others do on social media and have always wanted to try. I held off on posting about it since I wanted to see if it was something I would enjoy and would want to continue. What is this mysterious thing? Well I started curating a monthly make-up “drawer” or “box”. What this entails is selecting items from your makeup collection to use throughout the month. The purpose of this is to get more use out of items you don’t normally reach for and to help with panning items you are trying to finish. Which I felt would be helpful with my Project Pan. It actually hasn’t been all that helpful with that. But- it has been extremely helpful in making me reach for things I haven’t used and rediscovering old favorites. My March box is smaller than my February’s- I was too ambitious with the first box and then I had an eczema flare-up on my eyelids that meant I went without eyeshadow for a large portion of the month. This month’s “drawer” is a bit more edited. My goal in March is focused on using items I recently purchased with a few older items thrown in.
Pat McGrath Mothership VI Midnight Sun
I mentioned this last week in my February Low-Buy Haul post. I wanted to include this palette this month because I wanted to do a really deep dive into it - especially with my new Sonia G brushes. My goal is to reach it for 1-2 times a week this month. I’ve already used it about 3 times so I’m on track.
Lime Crime Lip Blaze in Herb
The Lime Crime Lip Blazes is one of my favorite lipstick formulas. It is a unique hybrid between a liquid lipstick and a lip gloss. I purchased three of the shades in the range last year Bud, Fern and Herb but had been using Fern pretty much exclusively. I recently had to replace Fern and decided now would be a good time to try the other shades that have been sitting virtually unused.
Too Faced Natural Face Palette
I used this palette a ton in early/late fall of last year. But I was mostly sticking to the bronzer and one of the blushes. My goal this month is to utilize more of the other shades which I do like but simply wasn’t using.
Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Sublime Concealer
I have been wearing this concealer pretty much everyday since I got it. I use it under my eyes and also like to pair it with the Stellar Limitless Foundation for a bit of extra coverage on my face.
MAC Paint Pot in Layin Low
I’ve had this product for awhile now and had never used it. But it came through in the clutch for me last month when my eczema flared up and I couldn’t put any eyeshadow on my eyes. I used this to help conceal the irritation and add a light hint of color to my eyes. And I’ve continued using it as my eyeshadow base this month.
Colourpop Brow Pomade in Bronde Moment
I go back and forth with using brow pomades. Sometimes I love them and sometimes I find them too heavy and just stick to a eyebrow pencil and eyebrow gel. I am back into pomades for the moment. And Bronde Moment from Colourpop is one of my favorite shades for my brows. It is a slightly ashy cool toned brown. It works really well on my dark brown brows but also pretty well on dark blonde brows. It’s a really versatile shade.
STELLAR Limitless Foundation
I raved about this foundation in my last post so it was a given for me to add it to my March drawer. I’ve been pairing it with the Pat McGrath concealer and really loving the finish and how great it stays looking over long hours.
Pat McGrath Blurring Under-eye Powder
I hate powdering under my eyes. I feel like it makes the undereyes look crepe-y and can age the eyes. So I bought this powder with the intent of using it on other places of my face. I have only used it a few times so far. I keep forgetting to reach for it when I am powdering my face.
Dose of Colors Liquid Lipstick in Knock on Wood
Dose of Colors is my favorite matte liquid lipstick brand. Their formula is fantastic. And as result of them being my fave I own a lot of their shades. And I want to start using them more as opposed to constantly reaching for my favorite shade, Cork. Knock on Wood is a few shades lighter than Cork. Too light for me to wear on it’s own and so I pair it with Cork for a really pretty neutral gradient effect on my lips. I’d forgotten how much I love this combo and have been enjoying rediscovering it.
Like I said above, I am really loving this idea. It isn’t restrictive - you can reach for items outside of the curated ones and mix and match. The point id to get use out of the items you own and it actually can really help with inspiration in regards to helping you be more creative in your makeup routine. Have you ever done a curated monthly makeup selection?
