Cool Toned Eye Shadow Palettes for Fall

Cool Toned Eye Shadow Palettes for Fall

2016-2017 was the season of warm-toned eyeshadow. Lots of oranges, golds, yellows, bronzes. And while those colors stories are still very popular - Urban Decay just came out with the warm-toned Naked Honey palette - cool tones have come back on the scene with a vengeance. I didn’t think I was into cool tones until last winter when I added a few palettes to my collection that I still find myself reaching for. Fall is the season of warm tones but there are quite a few cool-toned palettes that work perfectly for this season.

Milani Soft & Sultry

This is one of my favorite palettes. Every time I wear it I get compliments on my eye makeup. The great thing about this palette is that while it is cool toned, none of the shades look overly gray or “ashy”. They work with every eye color.I have brown eyes and have seen it on blue and green eyes and look amazing. The formula is also fantastic. Milani is one of those brands that I feel gets slept on far too often. Their eyeshadow formula rival some much higher end and more expensive brands. What I also love about Soft & Sultry is that you can go light and “everyday” or go really dark and smokey. You can do an all matte look or one packed with shimmer. For such a “basic” looking palette it is actually really versatile. And I’ve even taken it with me when I travel and that’s always a good sign of a palette’s versatility.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry

Like a lot of the palettes I wind up purchasing, I talked so much shit about this palette when it first came out. LOL. I said it was boring, predictable, BASIC. Well here I am to ring that “basic bitch” bell for myself because I bought this palette last year when it was on sale and I love it. And I love it for the shades that I thought I would get the least amount of use out of. Shades like Slate and Cyborg. I was never really a silver eyeshadow girl. I’m still not. But Cyborg?? Cyborg is STUNNING. That one the lid with Slate or Twig in the crease and Dystopian in the outer corner. LORDT. It’s beautiful. And the formula is the standard ABH eyeshadow formula - softly pressed, pigmented and easy to blend. This palette got a lot of attention for the coral-red shade in it. Which I have never touched. Honestly this palette didn’t even need it. But- if you want that pop of color it’s there. Oh- and the outside pancaking is really pretty!

Lime Crime Venus Immortalis Palette

Now I down’t own this palette- yet. It’s on my wish list. But it is so pretty an such a nice mix of cool toned shades that I wanted to include it. This is the fourth - and final- palette in Lime Crime’s Venus series. And I think this one is the best one yet. The shades are interesting and on trend but also wearable. If you want to dip your toe into color just a bit but also play it safe this is a great option. The reviews I’ve seen of this so far have been fairly positive and I am really curious to try the formula out myself.

Charlotte Tillbury Luxury Palette in Rock Chick

This palette is part of Charlotte Tillbury’s Luxury Palette line - the same line that the cult favorite “Pillow Talk” palette is a part of. Rock Chick features 4 shimmery/metallic cool toned shades. I recommended this palette to a friend and she really liked it but wound up returning it because it was too shimmery for her tastes. I think this isn’t something you could get a full look out of - unless you love wearing only shimmers then it would work great for that. I think it would function best as a companion palette to be paired with other cool-toned mattes. But at $53 for four shades that may be too pricey for a palette that can’t do it all. If you are fine with the price this is a beautiful palette and a great way to enhance your everyday look or for an event.

Viseart Liaison

If you love cool tones but want some color in your life - or you just love purple - the Viseart Liaison palette is a great option. At $49 for 9 shades it’s considerable cheaper than the $80 palettes Viseart is known for. I don’t own this palette personally but I have seen reviews on it and they are a bit mixed. Some say the formula is different from the $80 palettes - which is not that surprising - but others say that even though the formula is different it’s still a great formula and palette. I own one of the Viseart minis which cost $30. Which is a lot for a tiny palette that fits in the palm of your hand. But the formula is decent and so I say if you want to give Viseart a try this may be a more affordable way to do so.

Dose of Colors Pretty Cool

I love Dose of Colors five pan palettes.. The formula is amazing and they make great travel or companion palettes. All of the palettes feature 5 matte shadows in a gradient of a specific shade range. There last addition to the range was the Pretty Cool palette late last year. This palette is everything. You want a really cool-toned smokey slightly grunge-y eye look (and who doesn’t?) - this is the palette for you. All of the shades blend beautifully to create a cohesive all matte eye. You can wear it on’t own - which I prefer. Or you can bring in other shades to add more texture and dimension. The Charlotte Tilbury Rock Chick palette would pair perfectly with this. I won all of the five pan palettes (minus the Holiday 2018 one) and I can say that the formulas across all of them are consistent. And this one is my one of favorites of the bunch.

Natasha DeNona Biba Palette

This another palette I talked tons of shit about. When it first came out all I could think was, “why? Why do we need another palette full of neutrals?” And honestly - we don’t. But having seen this one in action it has been quietly placed on my wish list (as I hang my head in shame and hypocrisy). The key to this palette is the textures. That’s right. This isn’t just a plain old matte and metallic palette. No this palette features Natasha DeNona’s well-known cream to powder eyeshadow formula. I first tried this formula in the Gold palette and recently ion the Metropolis palette which features no less than 10 shades in the formula - and is stunning. I’ve fallen in love with it. And it’s made me give the Biba palette a second and third look. What is also great about this palette is that it’s not exclusively cool toned. It features warm toned shades as well which allows you to mix and match to create a more dimensional look. The price tag is hefty at $129 but having tried now three palettes of Natasha DeNona’s I think this one is probably the one that most people would get the most use of of. It’s utilitarian and yes, basic- bit not boring.
