What I Picked Up From the Sephora VIB Sale - And Why it's Mostly Skincare

What I Picked Up From the Sephora VIB Sale - And Why it's Mostly Skincare

The annual Spring Sephora Sale event is upon us. Every time I shop these sales I say that I’m not going to buy much- and then I buy way more than I planned. That is kind of sort of true this year as well. The major difference is that my shopping cart is mostly skincare. Not a single eye shadow palette or lipstick in sight. There are two reasons for that: One being that I have pretty much everything I’ve had my eye on recently. I just ordered the Colourpop Sweet Talk palette and it’s on it’s way to me. I also just received the Melt Cosmetics Smoke Sessions palette from the recent restock. I have a literal pile of palettes that I need to try or simply wear more often. I don’t really need - or want - any more at this point.

And two, I have been spending the bulk of my makeup budget at Ulta. Why? It’s simple - better rewards and deals. Sephora even with the new additions and changes to the rewards system they will be implementing need to do a better job at it. With Ulta I get rewards for every purchase - and get to use those points on ANYTHING I WANT. Not on samples or minis or if I’m lucky - a rewards card here and there. Ulta has been bringing on more and more of the same prestige brands that are sold at Sephora. Why would I purchase something at Sephora and get points that maybe I can use for something later on down the road when I can purchase that same item at Ulta and use those rewards points towards my next purchase? Or simply let them pile up and use them all on a huge order?

As a result of this my Sephora orders have been few and far between and I really only order things I can’t get anywhere else- which is generally certain skincare brands. And so it is with my current VIB sale order. It’s bigger than I was planning because I decided to throw in a few last minute items but still not as large or expensive an order as it could have been. I’m not going to lie - I was tempted by the Natasha Denona Biba palette. But I was strong and didn’t do it (I can’t promise that I won’t buy it eventually).

The Inkley List Beta Hydroxy Acid and Hyaluronic Acid

This brand has been popping up on social media a lot lately and it has stoked my curiosity. The price point is what intrigues me the most - think The Ordinary prices. And like The Ordinary The Inkey List has a full range of skincare serums, acids, and treatments with nothing being over $15. I love my The Ordinary products but I am more than happy to give another affordable skincare brand a try.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and Water Bank Gel Cream

Laneige is another brand everyone raves about. Mostly about their lip sleeping mask. I have very dry lips and no matter what I do (or how much water I drink) they seem to stay dry. I have heard that this mask does wonders at keeping the lips hydrated overnight so that you wake up with smooth and supple lips in the morning.

I am in the market for a new moisturizer for summer - I tend to prefer gel moisturizers for the season as creams can be too heavy on my oily skin in hot and humid weather. The reviews for this one intrigued me and so I figured I’d give it a shot.

Milk Hydro Grip Primer Mini

I am one of those people who loves trying primers. I have yet to find one that completely blows me away or makes a huge difference in how my foundation looks and wear - but I’m still looking. And the reviews for this one for oily and combo skin have been amazing. Yes, it’s hydrating but it also has a grippy texture that is supposed to keep foundation from melting and moving around. Perfect for summer.

Tarte Knockout Tingling Toner

YouTuber Stephanie Nicole has raved about this toner for ages. I’ve been curious about it for awhile and finally decided to give it a try. I love a good toner and am excited to give this one a try in my morning routine.

A few other bits

Like I stated I’m in a bit of a makeup slump as far as wanting to purchase a ton of makeup items but there were a bits that I’ve wanted to try that I included in my order. Most of them are minis of products I want to try first before investing in the full size. I also picked up a few staples:

Pat McGrath Lust Gloss in Faux Real

Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer Mini

Nars Climax Mascara Mini

Laneige Lip Glowy Balm in Peach

Shiseido Facial Cotton

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Are you planning on picking up anything from the sale? If so let me know in the comments!
