The Makeup Show Chicago Preview : All the Info You Need For This Year's Show.

I have had the pleasure of attending the Makeup Show Chicago over the last few years and it’s always such a fun experience. I am not a professional makeup artist, but I am a makeup enthusiast and I like taking what I learn at the show and applying it to how I do my own makeup (and occasionally my friends’ as well). This post will be a preview and breakdown of what to expect this Saturday and Sunday.

Main Stage Seminars

On Saturday, October 5th the featured speakers on the main stage will be Timothy Hung in his first seminar speaking on Artistry in Action. Where he will show how colors and texture can elevate a makeup look.

On Saturday as well will be makeup artist and makeup brand owner, Danessa Myricks, along with Felicia Walker who will be speaking on Complexion and how skincare play a part within makeup.

Sunday October 6th brings Ashunta Sheriff makeup artist to stars like Mary J. Blige and Taraji P Henson who will speak about business in beauty and being driven to create your own style and movement.

Closing out the seminars for the show will be the one and only Miss Fame (yes - THAT Miss Fame!), talented model, singer and makeup artist giving tips, advice and inspiration on making it in the makeup and beauty industry.

The Trends

This year’s trends that the Makeup Show will be focusing on you may have already noticed in editorials in fashion magazines or even in the makeup you’ve purchased over the year. For instance, Clean Beauty, is a trend that has blown up over the last year or so. Pigmented and bright colored blushes have been everywhere this year. But the twist is to use them in a fresh and interesting way to create a flush of color (think the K-Beauty Blush trend that is really popular right now) or for an overall monochromatic look. Neon eye shadows and eye liners have been everywhere this year from Huda Beauty’s Neon palettes to the Viseart Brights Palette. The flip side of neons that’s been very on trend as well and we will probably see more of in the coming colder months, are Neutrals. Think 90’s matte grunge-y smoky eyes.

Colorful liner have been popping up all over the place this year - I picked up a few myself from JD Glow Cosmetics and Colourpop. The vibe is very 60’s graphic eye. The liner being the star of the show. Bold beautiful brows are back. My sad brows weep at this but here’s hoping my brow serum makes my bushy brow dreams come true. I would love to take part in this simpler more natural looking trend. Le sigh…. The final trend The Makeup Show will be focusing on is sheer skin. This feels timely. I feel like so many brands have come out with sheer to light coverage foundations - Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation is a prime example of this. Colourpop just released their fist tinted moisturizer. And Danessa Myricks has her Vison Cream Cover. Think sheer, natural looking even, dare I say dewy finish. Now I can’t do dewy - but I can do sheer and natural!
