Beauty Products I Want To Pan in 2020

Beauty Products I Want To Pan in 2020

Let me preface this post by saying I love makeup. I wear it most days. It’s one of the things that brings me joy and I have a large collection. Larger than the average person I am sure. And I’m okay with that. Everyone has that thing or things that they enjoy spending their money on and collecting. So if my numbers shock you, I want to assure you you will be okay lol.

During the last few months of 2019 I did two declutters of my makeup collection. I decluttered approximately 30 eye shadow palettes and about 20 lipsticks. And that is not including the items that I decluttered in February 2019. Right now I am happy with where my collection is but I decided it was time to whittle down the numbers of certain items. Specifically foundation. After eyeshadow, foundation is my favorite thing to purchase. I love trying new formulas. Last summer during Foundation Palooza when it seemed like everyone and their mother was releasing a foundation I purchased quite a few (which you can read about here.) Which only added to my already large collection. And so I have decided it was time to “pan” a few in 2020. If you are not familiar with the term “pan” means to use a makeup product up or until you see “pan”. The term is used interchangeably for both panned powder items as well as other items. I have also added a few other items (well more than a few) that I would like to use up. There are various “Pan” projects on YouTube (#teamprojectpan is one of them) and beauty groups that have their own “rules”, but I’m a rebel and have decided to do things my own way. Sort of. I’ve borrowed a few guidelines to help keep things simple for myself:

The goal is to use up all the items on my pan list (see list and photo below). As items get used up and tossed, I can rotate other items if I want into the project. At the 3, 6, and 9 month mark I want to re-evaluate the items altogether. The point is to use up items but if the are no longer working for me for whatever reason I can take them out of rotation.

Let me note that I pan a lot of skincare items on a regular basis. Mainly because I use my products every single day and as a result they run out faster. So there aren’t a lot of skincare items on the list at the moment. But I do own a few items that I would like to pan before purchasing anything else within the same category. The same goes for mascaras. I’m a stickler for throwing my mascaras away at the 3 month mark and usually only have one open at a time. I currently have a bit of a backlog of mascaras I have received as PR samples as well samples I received in online orders that I will be working my way through before purchasing another.

Now that all of the nitty gritty details are out of the way let’s talk about the products I’ve chosen!

First up are the two foundations: I have been wearing my L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear foundation non-stop recently and I am just about finished with the bottle (I have maybe two more applications left in it). So I decided it made sense to throw into the project. I almost never pan a foundation so this is quite exciting for me. This is one of my favorite foundations and I will be repurchasing it once I’ve gotten my foundation collection down a bit. Which brings me to the other foundation on the list…

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Matte Foundation. I have had this foundation for ages. I originally purchased it when it first released and everyone was so hyped about it. And I hated it. It didn’t sit nicely on my skin and none of the primers I used at the time seemed to get along with it. It wasn’t until last year that I decided to give it another try and I switched up my application ( I find this foundation applies best with a brush) and the primer I was using (I started using the Too Faced Hangover Primer) and I feel like I’ve finally figured out how to make it work for me. But it’s still not a personal fvorite. I much prefer the Fenty Hydrating Foundation (which I gave high marks to in my foundation roundup in December). I got a sample of that foundation from Sephora in late summer and have been milking it ever since. It’s lovely. But I don’t want to spend the money on it until I’ve finished this one. This bottle is about half done and I think I can finish it within the next 3-4 months. At least that’s the goal.

As I mentioned above I use the Too Faced Hangover Primer with the Fenty foundation, but I’ve also been using it quite a bit in these colder dryer months in general under my foundation. I have a tiny travel sized bottle that has lasted me ages (I bought it in late 2018) because I only use a tiny bit on the less hydrated areas of my face. But it’s almost done and I want to use it up before purchasing another. I don’t think I will be buying a full sized tube since this one has lasted as long as it has. I also have a tiny bit of my Smashbox Primer Water to use up. I purchased my travel size bottle of this around the same time as the Too Faced Primer. And it’s last just as long. I used this for wetting my brush before applying metallic and shimmer eyeshadows. It helps them look more vivid on the eyes and also helps them stay in place. I already own a backup of this that I will start using once this one is done.

I have two Coloupop products I would like to use up. First is the Hades Everybody’s Got a Weakness highlighter from the Disney Villains collection. This is probably my most ambitious item on the list. Panning a highlighter is no small task. This one happens to be one of my favorite highlighters in my entire collection. I love it so much that in a panic of worrying that the collection would be discontinued, I purchased a backup. So now I own two. One has got to go. And so I will focus on using this one up. The second item is a a lip gloss. The Ultra Glossy Lip Gloss in Aquarius. I really love CP’s gloss formula. I have panned a few of them in the past not even trying. And Aquarius was a fave that I had forgotten about and want to pan before it goes bad.

Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Lip Liner in Nighthawk is my favorite lip liner of all time. It works with so many different lipsticks and I wear it nearly everyday. I had one that I thought I’d lost and so I purchased a new one. And then months later found the old one hanging out at the bottom of one of my purses. So now I have two half used Nighthawk pencils. I’ve got to use one of them up but hopefully both.

Next up are the skincare and other beauty-related items.

I purchased the Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask way back in Spring of 2019. And I am only halfway through the tiny tub despite using it every night before bed. It’s a fantastic lip product but I would like to finish it before I hit the year mark with it. I bought the Supergoop Acai Fusion Lip Balm this past summer because I wanted a lip balm with SPF in it. This one was my go-to for the majority of the summer. I use it every morning before applying my lipstick. I don’t know if I will repurchase it however since I am no longer finding it to be as hydrating as it used to be.

The Sunprise Mild Airy Finish SPF 50 has been my go to sunscreen for the better part of two years now. I decided to branch out and try the hydrating version, the Sunprise Mild Watery Finish. This one is a bit too hydrating for me. It’s nice sunscreen, but it’s definitely formulated for dry skin. I want to finish this one up before re-ordering Mild Airy Finish. I purchased the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner late summer and had stopped using it for awhile. I have recently re-started using it as I like the extra bit of hydration I get before applying my serums. This is a big bottle but since I use it twice a day, I think I can finish it rather easily.

I have also added a perfumer to the list. Tokyo Milk Dead Sexy 06. This is my third bottle of this perfume. It’s one of my faves. I can get through it rather quickly since there isn’t a ton of product in the bottle. I have other perfumers and tend to rotate them but I want to finish this one up and then buy a new. When I ordered this bottle it arrived with a broken atomizer, which makes it nearly impossible to spray. The company reimbursed me for the bottle but I am still stuck with a bottle of perfume I can’t really use. So I am thinking I will buy a refillable perfume bottle and transfer it to that and finish the bottle up that way.

Two additional items I decided to add to the list (and not pictured above) are my Dr Dennis Gross Dew Me Right Eye Cream and my Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner. I am not a huge eye cream person but I bought two over the summer in hopes of them helping with puffiness. Neither of them have helped all that much on that front but I have been liking the way the Dennis Gross one has been looking under my concealer and so I have been using it one the days I wear makeup. I’m already halfway through the bottle so I figured I’d throw it on the list.

During my declutter I went through my eyeliners and the Stila Stay All Day liner was saved from the garbage bin. I have had it awhile and used to use it all the time. It’s not my favorite liquid eyeliner, but it’s decent and I want to finish it up. And this way I won’t be using up my favorite liquid liner and having to repurchase it.

And that’s my list. Have you done a project pan before? How did it go? Let me know in the comments.
